  • Fearless Wellness Centre 67 Plant Street Quinte West, ON, K0K 1E0 Canada (map)

We live in a world that is constantly bombarding our senses and causing us to feel overwhelmed and stressed. Reports indicate that anxiety and depression rates have risen, especially during and post Pandemic. Our nervous systems are overloaded. We are in the “fight and flight” (Sympathetic) mode more than we are in “rest and digest” (Parasympathetic) . Yin and Restorative Yoga to the rescue!!!!!

.YIN YOGA

Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga that is meant to be meditative and relaxing. It is often interchangeable with “Restorative” yoga as both typically use props to experience yoga in passive poses lasting several minutes( Yin- 2-5) ( Restorative ( 10 + ).

Benefits of Yin Yoga

1) To lengthen the connective tissue- the tendons, fascia, and ligaments in order to improve flexibility and increase circulation in the joints

2) Boosts circulation

3) Relaxation response

4) Reduces stress levels

5) Feel rejuvenated

RESTORATIVE YOGA

Restorative Yoga provides us with an experience of rest for your body, mind and spirit. There is a surrender to the various props so that there is a quality of “Savasana” in every pose as we go deeper and deeper into the practice. The restorative poses or postures, put the body at ease and the guided meditation replaces our mental dialogue with a calm awareness of the breath, body and emotions and the capacity for well being.

Benefits of Restorative Yoga

1) Deep relaxation

2) Remove physical discomfort to promote relaxation

3) Body scans

4) Gentle breathing techniques

5) Reconnecting with feelings of peace

6) State of relaxation can bring joy, comfort and maybe even “bliss”

Whether it is the pursuit of calm or resilience, both Yin and Restorative styles are designed to bring you into a quiet state of body and mind. More softness, stillness and peace. Listening to yourself. Hearing what your body, mind and spirit are telling you what they need. Then watch how your nervous system appreciates you.
